Upon graduating U.S. Naval Academy, Eric Bayler served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, specializing as an oceanographer and meteorologist and earning his M.S. in Physical Oceanography and M.S. in Meteorology from the Naval Postgraduate School. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy, he completed his doctorate in atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing on ocean numerical modeling. Subsequently, he has worked for U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), focusing on satellite sea-surface salinity and data assimilation for satellite ocean observations.
